My Relative Tree

I have ancestors, therefore I am…

Philippines

Dear Laura,
I guess it is about time I wrote you another letter. I
just received the letter you wrote September 20.
That was a nice picture you sent, all the fellows in
the tent thought so. The fellow across from me
said I should put it on his shelf so I could see it
better.
I got a letter from mother, she sent me some
pictures of the family. It took me a long time to
figure out the kids, which one belonged to who
but I think I have it straight now.
What I have seen of the Philippines they aren’t
much different than the other places we have
been. We have an air raid now and then. We have
to get out of bed and get in a fox hole but that
isn’t bad.
I think the Filipinos come the nearest to white
people that I have seen in over a year and they are
a long ways from being white. I’ve seen some
pretty nice looking Filipino girls over here but I just
don’t have anything to do with them. I just look at
them as they go by and that is all.
No Laura, we don’t have movies here yet. The
only kind of entertainment we have had yet is air raids.
That isn’t very good entertainment.
I had to go to work at midnight last night and I
was up until midnight for other reasons so I guess
I had better try getting some sleep. Mother asked
me how we could work nights. She said it couldn’t
be that we would have lights. I wrote back and
told her that back in the U.S. was where they have
the blackouts, over here we have lights.
I will have to close for this time.
Love, Gordon
