Dear Laura,
I received a letter from you a few days ago so will
try and answer.
I just got in from work and a little sleepy so I don’t
know if I can think of anything to write or not. I am
working nights now so I have to try and sleep
during the day. It gets pretty hot to sleep in the
daytime, but it is cool working nights.
I have a letter or two from Maxine that I haven’t answered but I
didn’t know if I should write to your address or if
she would be gone before a letter would get there,
so I just haven’t written.
It seems to me that I answered this letter before
now I come to read it again. Well if I did this might
be a little different than the other one. I almost
have to write the same thing over every time
anyway because there is really nothing to write
about. I have been wondering if you had any
boyfriends yet. You’re telling me about them reminds me of that song (Either too
young or too old). Well I guess they will have to do
until the war is over anyway.
Did you ever get the letter Joe wrote you? I hope
you will answer it because the fellows over here
enjoy getting letters from girls. You know we don’t
very often get to see white girls over here, or if
you do that is all you do is just see her. You
couldn’t get close enough to get a good look. The
farther I go the more sure I am that I answered this letter. I’m
getting pretty sleepy and the day is getting hot so
I guess I had better go to bed. Isabel sent me a
pen. It is really a very nice one. It would be a nice
writing pen if someone had it that could write.
I will have to close now.
With love, Gordon
