Dear Mom,
I received your v-mail of Aug 28 and ‘regular’ letter of Aug 21 today. There must have been a letter missing somewhere before that as I didn’t know Eileen was sick. I hadn’t heard from you for a couple of weeks.
That other package came Monday, I had nearly forgotten about it being on the way. Thanks a lot. I did get a letter from Mary Bryant a couple of weeks ago, but haven’t gotten around to answer it yet. In fact this is the first letter I have written for nearly 2 weeks.
I got a letter from Peg a few days ago, one from Judy and one from Betty today.
Jay must have had quite a vacation, what kept him so long? Or hasn’t he gotten back yet?
Thanks for Joe‘s address. I can drop him a line but don’t stand a chance of seeing him again before we get home, I guess.
People back there are sure getting prolific back there. I’d like to see Ed Jessup. Ha Ha!
A year ago yesterday we passed the Statue of Liberty. It hardly seems that we’ve been over here a year in one way, but if you stop to think of it, it seems like ages. I imagine, I’ll have some more overseas stripes before I get back, too.
We got paid today and I tried the craps game for a while but didn’t make out so good. I guess the ‘law of averages’ catching up.
I got a letter from Loretta a while back. She said she “hoped you folks liked her half as much as she liked you; maybe Wanda would invite her up again”. She seemed to like the kids a lot. I haven’t heard from Wanda lately. I imagine she’s pretty busy now. Loretta says she’s studying quite hard.
Betty is going back to Mansfield in a week or so, she finally decided to quit work and continue school for at least another year. She’s getting pretty serious about ‘us’ now, and I’m kinda up a stump. I reckon I’ll just hang on till I get back and can make a break one way or the other.
Well it’s pretty late so I’ll sign off.
Love to all, Wayne
