Dear Mom,
I just finished a v-mail to Eileen but I guess I can write a little more. Your letter may give me an inspiration. I haven’t received the third package yet but will watch for it. I popped some of that corn and it came out pretty good. My mess kit lid fits pretty tight so I’ll poke some some holes in it next time and I think it’ll do better yet. These mess kits take quite a beating; we fry chicken, hamburger, eggs and anything else we can get our hands on in them. We get the butter or shortening the same way we get the stuff we fry, almost.

I’m glad Jay got a chance for a vacation, it’ll do him good. Where in Virginia do Reese’s live? I know the state pretty well; I should – I was on three maneuvers there in various parts. If you think Berwyn will know me from my pictures you might be fooled, time and place make a difference. I hope he will tho’, he’ll have to, as I won’t know him.

I can’t think of anything I need right now, I’d asked Judy to get me some stuff in Wash. that you probably wouldn’t have been able to get and if she does I’ll be pretty well set. Wanda sent me two big tablets of air mail paper, said she’d send more. She must think I’m a teletype machine.
