Dear Mom,
I received your box this evening and a few of us left here and the hut had a feast of cake. It sure was good, we can’t get anything like that in this country. That’s the first one any of us have gotten thanks for the other stuff too.
I spent the weekend with Joe and we had a swell time. I got acquainted with his laddies and they’re a swell bunch. Master Sergeant Mitchell and I were over there Thursday night too, and Joe brought us back Friday morning. Joe got me a billfold for the oversize pound notes. I tried to pay him for it and he wouldn’t hear of it. He remembered when my birthday was and said for me to count it towards that. It must have cost him about 30 lbs (about $6.00), as it’s very good leather especially for this place.
I got letters from Peg and Laura tonight and one from Anita Harrington (Zettle?) whom I hadn’t heard from for about nine months. Last night I got one from Judy and Mrs. Nellie Smith so I’ve got plenty of writing to do. One of the boys asked for some space on this so I’ll give him an inch or so. Love to all, Wayne.

Hi “Mom”! Gee! The cake was wonderful, just wanted to say thanks – Keep the home fires burning. Bye Now. “La Oneg Ne”! Orvel

BDS – “oneg” means pleasure or delight in Hebrew
