England,
Dear sis,
I got your letter with the stamp and closed this evening; also a letter later female. Thanks for the stamps; they’ll last me for two or three weeks, probably, unless I hit an ambitious streak and right to everyone I know.
I’ve heard from Betty several times; even got three and succession from her about a week and a half ago, but I guess the strain must have been too much because I haven’t heard from her since.
Master Sergeant Mitchell and I went over to the place. Joe was stationed last night. We knew a girl there and I wanted to see he knew a girl there and I wanted to see Joe. When we got off the train, we required about the next one coming back here and found that we only had an hour to spend there.
Neither of us knew anything about the town so we figured we might as well give up, the idea of looking the people up and headed for the nearest pub instead. Went back to the station about 15 minutes early, but as we left here before supper, we thought it would be nice to have a cup of coffee and some cakes. We each ate one cake and put another in our pocket, that was a mistake, we should have put them all in our pockets. The rear car of our train was just going by when we went out on the platform; the last train until 6 AM in the morning. We went back uptown and caught a bus. It was lucky as heck and found where Joe stays as though I’d known where it was. The fellas there got a couple beds and some blankets for us and Joe brought us back with the car. He drives early this morning. We had a good time after all.
it is muddy as the deuce around here, it hasn’t rained for the past couple days, but it takes forever for the ground to dry around here. The dampness makes a fellow have a steady cold.
These English electric lights aren’t worth a hell of a law if you want to see anything. I can hardly see what I’m writing. I guess I’ll have to get some Spot remover to use on my eyes.
One of the fellows came back from his 48 hour past London this morning and brought some new popular American records with him. They sure sound good.
Well, I’m going to quit writing before my eyes get out entirely.
Love,
Wayne
PS, you might send some more stamps in a couple weeks.
