Dear Mom,
I received your letter dated September 11 a couple of days ago and another you forgot to date today. The one today came through without being photographed on the right margin had some cut off, it was marked ‘damaged’, probably done when they cut it open. I missed about four sheets of paper before I got the addressing correct. If you have trouble reading this let me know and I’ll try to write larger next time. I could read yours and the one I got from Wanda plainly though she had 30 lines on hers. I had a little trouble reading one I got from Dot yesterday. I’ve also received an airmail letter from Laura Miller; done pretty good at mail call the past three days, eh?
How come Evan isn’t in the army yet? I thought he expected a call about the time I was home. He must be about the only one of the boys left there.
I smashed my teeth all to hell on the way over. I was carrying them in my overcoat pocket and being very careful not to break them and then I had to go set on it. Broke into three pieces this time. I knew they wouldn’t last me long. Maybe I can tell you a little more about it in my next letter Love to all,
Wayne
