Where was he? on furlough?

Hello Sis,
I wasn’t very prompt about writing to you after I got back was I? I’m not going to try to make an excuse for it, either, for I haven’t any except plain laziness.
I did write to Mom, Betty, Don, Judy, Peg, Alice, Bill and Carrie. I had a letter from the latter when I got back from furlough.
Sorry I couldn’t and still can’t send you any money. The Regiment got paid the day before I got back and the fellows on furlough were all red-lined until next month. Nearly all of the fellows who owed me money are on furlough and will probably be broke when they get back so I’m just a hurtin’. I can get along ok for I have what stuff I’ll need for the month but I did want to send some home.
The Regiment moved to Tennessee, by truck, the night I got back and the boys had the chutes all packed so we haven’t had a thing to do this week. Good deal.
The only thing wrong with it is that our mail will all go where they are, and we won’t be able to get it until they come back or we go join them which may be another week or so.
I had a good trip on the way back with a four hour layover in Harrisburg, three hours in Terre Haute, Indiana and stayed in Evansville about five hours before going on into camp. I got in about 20 minutes before the furlough was up; pretty close timing, eh?
Well, this is a pretty short letter, but I can’t think of anything else to write at the present, so might as well sign off and go to sleep.
Love, Wayne
