This letter was dated Jan 10, 1942 but the envelope postmark said 1943. I believe he just miswrote the year. We’ve all done it!

Dear Sis,
I got your letter and one from Peg today, so I’m going to try to answer them. I wrote a letter to Jack McDonald this morning and one to Roses last night, trying to catch up on my neglected correspondence. I’ve still 45 to go.
I did a little better on my “B” stage exam, got 98 and made 100 for “C” stage. Oh no, your brother‘s brain isn’t entirely paralyzed yet, even if it does show symptoms of being affected by some such malady sometimes.
I received and answered a letter from Laura Yaudes. and one from Joe this week. Also one from Mom and a box of candy and two letters from Alice this week. I got a letter from Ed Jessup and one from Jerry last week.
This past week, I’ve been hand-sewing (best in the class) and sewing leather and webbing with a big 97–10 machine. I can tear down a regular machine (model #) adjust it and put it back together, make it work too!
I have just a week left and then –? There’s a rumor that most of us will go to California, but I don’t know how near it is.
Charlie gave up his furlough and started rigger school last Monday. I see him every day, though he still stays in the “frying pan” and walks to school and back.
Our mail is still mixed up. I got a letter from Mom in three days but one from Alice and Laura’s were mailed December 17, taking over three weeks.
I’m a little tired myself. I never go to sleep before midnight and have to get up at 6 o’clock. I just begin to wake up right after supper, must be a little owl mixed into my system.
I got up this morning and washed a pair of coveralls and saddle soaped and polished my boots. They’ll think I’m just a visitor at school tomorrow, being all cleaned up like that all at once.
I’m feeling pretty good now. My side hasn’t bothered me for better than a week, so I guess it healed up all right.
Well, this is all for this time. I have to go to chow now.
