Dear Mom,

I got your letter yesterday but don’t have time to answer it.

I happen to see the card I sent you the other day. I didn’t know when your birthday was, but I thought it was sometime this month. At least it’s the right time of the year and that’s the only time I’ve been out of the woods for a month. I probably won’t get out for another month. We had a good time over the weekend.
