June 25, 1942

Camp Livingston, Louisiana

Dear Mom,

I received your letter two or three days ago, but just didn’t get around to answer it before. I got a letter from Lucille too, that I will have to answer, also one from Joe.

I just happened to be using the typewriter to copy a little poem for some of the fellows, so I thought I might as well use it to write to you. Please excuse any mistakes as I’m no expert at this.

I was tickled to hear that Wanda finally got mad enough to tell somebody off; I’d like to have heard that. Nelly and Florence must have got their ears full.

Well, I might as well tell you what I’ve been doing this week, there isn’t anything else to write about.

Monday I went over to the camp laundry after our last weeks laundry. It took me about all day as it wasn’t ready and I had to wait for it.

Tuesday, I took the dirty laundry over and had to wait all forenoon in line, waiting my turn to unload. I didn’t get unloaded so in the afternoon I loaded it onto Chuck’s truck and let him try his luck.

The quartet had to go to the club (division) to practice for a broadcast this next Sunday. In the afternoons, we are supposed to practice every Tuesday and Thursday, and broadcast every week over the blue network. They will get the music for us and have a pianist for us.

The noncom’s don’t like it a little bit and told us that we could either sing or drive truck but not both. I think we can arrange it so we can do both though, now that we have assistant drivers. The trouble now is that Hilman is driving ambulance and Dewey is my assistant.

Yesterday morning, I drove station equipment out to the training area and played patient. In the afternoon, I drove men to the obstacle course.

Today I took the equipment out and worked on the truck the rest of the time. We were supposed to go on a 16 mile hike tonight but they canceled it because of a Division review tomorrow morning. We have another new commanding general taking over.

Well, I’m getting tired of running this thing and also run out of topics so will close.
