Camp Livingston, LA.
Dear Mom,
I don’t know what I’m going to write about but maybe something will come to me while I’m writing.
I received your letter yesterday and got one from Ruth this morning. I haven’t heard from Joe or Peg in quite a while. Haven’t had a letter from York for quite a while either, but that doesn’t bother me.
I’ve just finished dinner; chicken, mashed potatoes, dressing, lettuce salad, peas, coffee, bread, and butter, and ice cream. This is the regular Sunday dinner except that the chicken was better and they didn’t have the pies today. Not too bad though, and you can have all you want and some leftover.
I haven’t washed since dinner so the paper may get kind of greasy. It’s always easier to hold chicken in your hand to eat it.
I took a bunch of fellas to town yesterday afternoon that we’re going home and stayed in a while, getting things for some of the fellows and myself.
Lester and Leland‘s girls from Hornell came down. Got here yesterday and the boys went to meet them at the station. They haven’t got back yet.
I’m not planning much on a furlough and you’d better not plan much on it. They went over the list again and told me that my turn would be about July 4, if we were still here then. Some of the fellows are betting on whether we are here yet then or not.
If I do come up I’m going to go to Elmira instead of Williamsport. The connections are better that way, St. Louis, Erie, Buffalo, and Elmira. It takes 35 hours and cost $35. Not bad.
We just lost a good excuse for not writing more letters. The order came down this morning that no stamps were necessary on soldiers outgoing mail.
Well, I can’t think of anything more so will close.
Love to all,
Wayne.
