Camp Livingston, LA
Dear Mom and All,
I received your letter this morning and think I have time to answer it tonight.
I just finished a book “Singing Guns” by Max Brand. I buy those pocket books which are the same as regular books but smaller and have paper covers. They are only $.25 apiece.
So far I have, Singing Guns, Adventures of Ellery Queen, New Adventures of Ellery Queen and Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, all by Ellery Queen. Also, “The case of the howling dog” by Erle Stanley Gardner and a couple more I can’t remember the names of, so I have something to take up my time without reading True Story and those kind; I don’t like them.
It is rained here about 8 to 10 hours every day for two weeks so it is plenty damp.
Thanks for the stamps, but I have some now. We were paid Monday and the first thing I did was buy two dollars worth of stamps so that should last a while.
Somethings going wrong with this pen it isn’t working right, got to investigate.
This is more like it. Needed filling. Thanks for offering to send me anything I wanted but I can’t think of anything unless you start figuring out how you could send me 25 or 30 dollars in case you get a telegram that I was coming home. Not much chance of it, but the infantry and quartermasters have given some furloughs so we might, about next month.
I got the Valentines OK. Guess I forgot to mention it before. I also have gotten a couple of letters from Mama Rose and one from Grandma Smith.
We had a black out here tonight just for practice it lasted about 20 minutes.
By the way, the address is now officially Camp Livingston so write me there next time if it is soon. They have to change about once a week just to see if we can keep up with them. You can see from that how mixed up this Army is, everything is the same way. Well , I think I’ll close for now and go to bed if these darn poker players will either get out or quiet down.
Love to all, Wayne
We’ll, I guess this is a continued story. I put the letter in the back of my tablet and forgot to mail it being too lazy to hunt up my envelopes at the time.
I received Wanda’s letter this morning. Tell her I will answer it when I can.
I had to stand locker, bunk, field (lay out in the tent) and truck inspection today, all in the forenoon.
I have read nearly all afternoon, finishing “Mr. Pinkerton Goes to Scotland Yard“, and a couple of stories in Western Story, though slept a little.
It is raining some now and has for most of the afternoon, not hard, it will probably let ‘er down tonight.
Well, I guess this is up to date again so, the end of another chapter.
Love, Wayne.
