Camp Livingston, LA
Dear Mom,
Well, things have broken loose here. The outfit is splitting up, changing from a square division to triangle and everything is changing over.
The Medical Regiment will be changed to a Medical Battalion, having A, B, D and F Companies here and sending the rest to -?
I have requested a transfer to Air Corp unassigned, but don’t know whether I’ll be sent there or not. I leave the company anyhow with Lester, Leland, Caroll Maynard and several others. Four of the NCOs leave too.
I don’t know whether it’s necessary or not, but I’d like to have your written permission to go in the Air Corp, just in case anything comes up.
If I am put into the Infantry I’ll stay just long enough to get another transfer.
We boys went to the chapel to practice last night. We talked to Sergeant Austin, 1st sergeant in Company E, from Mansfield. He is going to ask the chaplain to write to authorities about getting the quartet into Army Recreation center. So you see we’re not putting all our eggs in one basket.
I have written this in a hurry as I expect the company back from Parade assembly and will have to attend class so there are lots of mistakes.
Hoping everyone is well, I will close. Love to all,
Wayne,
P.S. Send permission as soon as possible no telling when I might need it. W. S.
