Dear Dad,
I was rather surprised to get your letter. I just finished reading it and thought I might as well answer it now as later.
I got a letter from Joe yesterday and a card from Jean Grinnell. I answered both of them yesterday.
I wrote a letter to Mom and Wanda about four days ago and put in the glove compartment of the truck, intending to mail it when I went by the post office but forgot it, so it’s still there.
I got a letter from Peg a couple of days ago but I haven’t answered yet. I haven’t got a letter from Ruth yet.
Some of the fellows are coming home on furlough (10 Days) the 4th of February. Only 15% (7 men) of the company can go at once. The ones that were called back last time get preference. I’m supposed to get mine the 14th. It takes about 36 hours to go from here to Harrisburg by train and cost $31.65 for a round-trip. I may have to have you draw out what I have in the bank and send it to me, I don’t know yet how it will come out yet. I may be able to borrow 10-15 dollars from someone here. I won’t have but about $23 left out of this pay.

Sunday afternoon 2/1/42
Well, it’s a day later than when I started this but still no more news.
I got the letter from Mom this morning with the license in it. I also got a letter from Ruth.
We had a division parade yesterday forenoon. We walked, marched I mean, for a couple of miles.
Yesterday afternoon George Coleman and I went for a walk around the area and snapped some pictures. I sent 4 exposed rolls in during the week.
Well, Leland I had planned to get the boys and practice quartet a little, as they are now waiting for me I will have to close.
Your son, Wayne
