Dear Mom,
I had some of these cards given to me yesterday so I thought I might as well use them now as I have no place to carry them easily. We are in reserve this week, so far anyhow, that we may have to relieve Company A tomorrow.
We have been having an awful time finding something to do but we had some fun last night and this morning. We got here after dark last night and after digging latrines we went over to the officers tents and started digging and talking about the latrine. We dug a hole and tore up some paper and covered it about half up the….[the corner of this postcard was cut away where the stamp had been, and there was no way to determine the trick that was played upon the officers, but no court marshal mentioned in subsequent letters].
