Time and Again

By Velma M. Rose Smith

“Time and again”, I’ve told you not to do that, time and again, we say. I suppose we mean, I’ve told you before, like yesterday, or last week. Time – now – or at this time yesterday, or at this time tomorrow. Would you like to go back in time? What time in your life do you want to go back to?

Time – look at your watch – time to get up – time to get dinner – time to pick up the kids, late time – the kids should be home. Time – seconds, minutes, hours, even days, weeks, months, even after 9 months of waiting, it is time for baby to arrive. Time to put the garden seeds in the ground. It has been a long time; long time since you heard a loved one’s voice. Time and again you think of them, or see them in your dreams.

When I tell a youngster, I have told you not to do that time and again. If they stopped to think, which of course they don’t, they might ask, what do you mean, “time and again”?
